About Us

Jay Springsted, MS, LMFT

I started this practice because I love what I do. I recognize that I do not “fix” people, but instead I feel humbled and blessed to play whatever part I can in the healing process. Seeing growth in a child is a delight to any parent, and seeing growth in the lives of my clients is a joy to me. Although there are situations with outcomes I would prefer to see differently, I genuinely care for and respect each of my clients, many of whom have improved their lives by doing the hard work of the therapeutic process.

My education includes a BA in Psychology from University of Redlands (summa cum laude), an MS in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University, and multiple internships at various sites. I am a Certified Facilitator of the Prepare-Enrich program, a licensed member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists), a lifetime member of Phi Beta Kappa honors society, and a California state-licensed marriage & family therapist (#77401).

I have worked with elementary children as a school counselor (with specialized training in Play Therapy) at five elementary schools in Riverside Unified School District. I also have had the pleasure of serving at the Grove Community Church Counseling Center, since 2009, where I have seen clients and conducted clinical supervision for therapists in training. I have had the privilege of specializing in working with couples on a wide variety of marital issues. It has also been an honor to be trusted by adolescents in working through many challenges that come with that stage of life. My current practice is largely made up of couples and individual adults working through relational and emotional struggles.

My excitement for marital counseling is due largely to my passion for the institution and ideals of marriage. This passion is most significantly exercised in my role as a husband to my amazing wife. We understand the challenges of marriage and raising children, and I take great delight in working with other families to try to thrive amidst those challenges. My personal life also includes hobbies such as mechanical work, DIY, a love of music, a “techie” side that likes all things electronic, and, most importantly, a personal relationship with Jesus.

Aimee Rios, MA, AMFT

Hi there! My name is Aimee and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I obtained my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University and my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UC Riverside.

My experience comes from The Grove Corner Counseling Center where I worked with adults and teens struggling with anxiety, depression, and personality disorders and helped them explore emotional barriers, create positive life changes, and improve relationships. There, I was also privileged to lead a grief and loss support group and walk alongside bereaved clients. I have experience working with couples and have completed Gottman Method level I training in couples therapy.

As a therapist, I endeavor to create a safe and welcoming environment for clients to gain insight into their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I am passionate about collaborating with my clients as they navigate life’s challenges. I have a special interest in working with children, as well as individuals who are living with chronic illness and experiencing grief.

During my free time, I enjoy connecting with my family and friends, travel, and playing the harp.

I am excited to be part of the team at Parakaleo Counseling and look forward to working with you on your journey towards wellness and growth.
